As a Quantum Energy expert, I’ve had many people come to me with mystery symptoms, struggling to understand why they are suffering from conditions like anxiety and depression with no clear cause.
Today, I want to talk about ancestral trauma and programming and explore how this topic is extremely relevant when you’re investigating the root cause of mystery symptoms. I will help you understand what ancestral trauma is, how it could be affecting you, and we will talk about 3 steps you can take to release ancestral trauma and programming.
I’m here to help you uncover these hidden patterns and give you simple tools to begin the healing process from the inside out.
Ancestral trauma refers to the emotional and psychological wounds as well as patterns of behavior that are passed down from one generation to the next. Naturally, ways of being that have been observed from your family of origin can become engrained in your psyche, even unhealthy, unkind, or destructive behaviors. Toxic programming your ancestors were subjected to can be stored in your genes, cells, and biofield. There’s evidence in the field of epigenetics showing that brain alterations from trauma can be passed on generationally through your gene expression.
Here’s a quick example of how trauma can be transmitted through epigenetic mechanisms. Have you ever wondered why you still have a “fight or flight” response when it's been thousands of years since humans needed to outrun a lion, tiger, or bear for survival? You have inherited the genetic predisposition to survive in your environment. “Survival mode” is built into your genes and is how your ancestors lived long enough to keep the family line going.
Pinpointing where ancestral patterns could be showing up in your life is essential to ending the trauma cycle. By recognizing the patterns and letting go, you can change the outcome of your gene expression!
If you struggle with anxiety, depression, or negative thoughts and emotions you might be carrying the weight of your ancestors’ past traumas.
You may be able to reflect and identify a specific time in your life when these struggles began. However, it’s possible you don’t fully understand where these feelings stem from because they are not from your lived experience. It might occur to you that the anxiety, depression, or negative behaviors you experience and express seem like they aren’t fully “yours.”
Ancestral trauma can create patterns of negativity for generations. There were probably traumatic events that happened to people in your ancestral line. It could be anything from violence, heartbreak, illness - the list goes on and on. Traumas like this can send a ripple of dysfunction and destructive patterns through the family line.
Luckily, the trauma that gets passed on by your ancestors can be overcome with conscious awareness. You are capable of essentially “re-wiring” the brain by choosing to release negative patterns. The amount of power you have to transform your life by changing your thoughts is astounding!
No one has had the same experiences or family dynamics that you have - it is one of the many things that makes your journey unique! Wounds from past traumas, mistakes you believe you've made, regret, resentment, and heartache can all be healed. These experiences can become the greatest gifts when you allow yourself to heal and grow.
Here are 3 steps you can take to identify and release negative ancestral patterns:
REFLECT: Examine your common negative thoughts and emotions or trauma responses. Then, identify which ones you have noticed in your parents, your siblings, your grandparents, or any other immediate family. If you were adopted or don’t have generational examples, identifying your own patterns is enough. The most important part of this step is to look within. Once you have a thorough list – highlight the thoughts and emotions that don’t feel like they are rooted in YOUR personal life experience. Reflect on how these thoughts and emotions have impacted your day-to-day life. These are the ancestral patterns that must be addressed.
FORGIVE: Learning to forgive gives you emotional freedom and helps you maintain a state of flow in your life. Take some time to breathe and connect to your heart. Then, write a letter forgiving anyone associated with your ancestors who may have been the root cause of trauma being coded into your gene expression. Acknowledge that now you are safe and do not need to carry the weight of past traumas.
RELEASE: Once the letter is written, fold it up and say “I easily and freely forgive and release.” Imagine the emotional wound healing. Optional step: either symbolically dissolve the letter by submerging it in water or safely burn the letter with fire.
Feel the weight of the past lifted off your shoulders after you complete this exercise!
Fill the space you’ve just cleared with compassion and love. The more you let go of what is no longer serving you and choose love, the more freedom you gain. This choice gets easier with practice! Over time, your sense of balance and clarity of purpose will be renewed. Your choice to break the cycle of ancestral trauma will make a difference for generations to come!
