Some of the greatest minds in the history of science formed their hypotheses by spending hours staring up at the sky and contemplating the wonders of the universe.
Rather than envisioning intimidating white coats and sterile labs when you think of science, take a moment to think of it, at its core, like a grand adventure for curious minds where explorers uncover the mysteries of the world. It's all about asking questions and finding answers through experiments and observations – that is the scientific method. Think of the ways you conduct science in your everyday life!
Science helps you understand how things work, how to tend a garden, how to perfect your favorite recipe, and how to adjust your daily routine to feel your best. On a larger scale, science gives us life-saving treatments for diseases, technological tools that revolutionize how we connect and communicate, and solutions to arising problems in every aspect of life.
As with any field, scientific research is not immune to potential biases or conflicts of interest. It’s crucial to recognize that some studies may have ulterior motives or be influenced by external factors. Perfectly sound and informative independent studies may be suppressed by large companies because of their findings. Developing your intuition is essential for filtering research through a lens of integrity. Intuition helps guide you to make decisions that serve the highest good for you and humanity.
Intuition acts as a catalyst for scientific inquiry and scientific evidence helps validate and refine an intuitive hunch. Remember, everything is connected! Here is some guidance on how to integrate scientific knowledge into intuitive decision-making.
1. Reference research responsibly. When referencing scientific research, you must approach it intelligently. It’s not wise to type your question into the search bar and click the top link for an answer or to let memes or the latest news cycle the algorithm chooses for you serve as your guides to health. When you reference PubMed, Google Scholar, or independently funded research, look for key indicators to ensure the study is legitimate. Scrutinize the methodology, sample size, and statistical analysis. Examine who funded the study. By referencing research responsibly, you can avoid confusion and manipulation.
2. Learn muscle testing. Muscle testing enables you to rely on your innate wisdom to guide your choices, whether it's selecting supplements or healthcare providers. This practice accesses your body’s biofeedback system to help identify stressors and blockages in the body. You can learn this simple skill of applying pressure to a muscle and looking for either a yes/no or weak/strong response. The response you get will be true for you in real time. Scientific studies provide valuable insights but it's important to view them as general guidelines rather than one-size-fits-all prescriptions. Recognizing and understanding the limitations of research allows you to appreciate the need for personalized approaches that consider an individual's unique characteristics and requirements.
One key limitation of scientific studies is that outcomes observed in sample populations may not perfectly align with any given individual's unique needs and circumstances (a certain shot comes to mind!). For instance, many studies have all male subjects yet draw conclusions for everyone.
Each person is distinct, with their own genetics, lifestyle factors, and characteristics that can influence their response to a specific protocol or practice. People are constantly evolving, and what was considered a "best practice" a year ago might need reevaluation for that same individual now.
If you want to enhance your ability to confidently make decisions for yourself AND the people you may serve as a practitioner, it's necessary to combine scientific research with personalized, intuitive assessments. Blindly accepting the status quo is not going to yield optimal results for most people.
